The Replacement Mommy

Posted by: Mom

This is going to require some participation from you all, because I'm not sure how I feel about this...I just thought it was odd and wondered what other people thought. Here goes:

Last night, Jeremy offered to wake up with the kids in the morning so I could sleep in. I slept in the guest room so I didn't hear them wake up...Yes, I already know Jeremy's a Saint, but that's not what I wanted to discuss.

Around 9:00, I find my way out of bed and everyone's gone. A few minutes later, the garage opens and the house is once again filled with noise angelic voices. Jeremy told me they went to IHOP and that Livi was a little unbearable, but with her still fighting her whole hand-foot thing, it wasn't surprising. That's all he said about the outing and noted that he was happy that I got some rest.

A few hours later, in passing, he mentioned the following:

Jeremy: "oh, at breakfast, Livi's nose was running so much that the waitress came by with a napkin and wiped it."

Me: "what? the waitress wiped my daughter's nose?"

Jeremy: "yea"

Me: "did you ask her to wipe her nose"

Jeremy: "no, it was just running".

Me: "you didn't find that odd?"

Jeremy: "not really, she also tried to pick her up, but that didn't go over too well with Livi, she kind of freaked out."

Me: "did she ask if she could pick up your baby?"

Jeremy: "no, why?"

Me: "you really don't find that odd?"

Jeremy: "well, Livi was still in her jammies, and she probably figured I was a single dad with the kids for the weekend. she was just trying to help". (note: Jeremy doesn't wear a wedding ring).

Me: "so she litterally just walked by, took out a napkin and wiped your kid's nose, and then tried to pick her up, and you didn't say anything?"

Jeremy: "what was I supposed to say...it didn't bother me, does it bother you?"

Me: "yea, it does"

Jeremy: "why?"

Me: "um...I don't know, I guess...it just does"

So, what do you think?

I have a hard time wiping my own kids nose. I cannot even imagine wiping another child's nose. She must be a mental case. ;)

Do you think maybe she was trying to pick up on Jeremy if she thought he was a single dad with the kids for the weekend? I think women tend to be the mothering type and a lot of women tend to step over the bounds. I can't tell you how many women try to mother my kids- "Get off the roof!" "Stop trying to shot that dog with a BB gun!" Don't put that hair dryer in that water!" "Kids shouldn't play with matches!" But seriously, yeah, that is wierd.

Creepy....ya, I tried to wipe my nephews nose this weekend and I dry heaved(sp?) Was the waitress young and cute or was she old grandma type? Reguardless....I do find that REALLY odd. I would NEVER do something like that. Are you going to call and complain to IHOP?

I don't know what she looked like, actually. Jeremy?...

I'm not taking it seriously, especially not enough to complain. I just thought it was weird...and Jeremy didn't...so I was looking for some input as to what other people thought...of course I knew the chicks would take my side ;)

I totally agree that I would never wipe another kids nose, not just because of the "boundary" issue, but it's just gross. Once in church nursery, a kid handed Jeremy her booger...he seriously almost passed out.

She was a 40 something. I'm not sure if she's a grandma or not, but she handled the napkin like a pro.

Maybe she was trying to pick up on me... It seems like older women have always been attracted to me - just ask my wife who is soon to be 3 years older than me :P

So...way weird to me! I'll go fight her with you though, or we could do a drive by in one of our mini vans....we're so cool!

That is funny.

Thanks ladies...I knew I wasn't crazy. I think Jeremy is just accustom to being taken care of, so it didn't even phase him. Maybe I'm too good to him....especially after the "old" comment....

Nicole..maybe once you've had four kids the "gross" factor goes away? Or you're just a natural mother! Next time my kids are sick, I'm keeping them at your house!
